Shoulder Surgery

A painful shoulder can be very disabling, causing a great deal of discomfort while sleeping, performing day-to-day activity, or even “nagging” at rest. The shoulder joint is a ball and socket, made of the upper end of the arm bone (humerus), and socket (glenoid) of the shoulder blade. Muscles and tendons, called the rotator cuff, hold the joint and allow the arm to move. Overuse or shoulder injuries can lead to pain and dysfunction.

Dr. Van Thiel's advanced sports medicine training can help you get back to activities with a pain-free shoulder. Often, shoulder pain can be relieved with simple treatments such as rest, medications, injections, or physical therapy. People that do not find relief or had a major injury, can benefit from minimally-invasive shoulder surgery. Dr. Van Thiel is an expert in these procedures.

Dr. Van Thiel treats patients from all over Wisconsin and Illinois including Rockford, Elgin, Huntley, Dekalb, Crystal Lake, Barrington, McHenry, and Beloit.
